I began training with clubs 19 years ago. Until a few months ago, I had very little experience training with double clubs. Now, double clubs show up in my workouts more often.
Double clubwork is a different beast than single club or 2 hand club training. Dbl Front swings take on a different dynamic due to decelleration. Dbl Mills will create iron clad shoulders. Double club workouts tax the body harder than alternating one sided work. This is the key to building strength and size with clubs, if that’s your fitness goal.
Using double clubs creates an overload on your muscles by requiring enough force to propell the weight of 2 clubs in the same direction while the decelleration to catch each club is amplified. Example, the Front Swing to Clean using dbl 15lb clubs requires generating enough force to swing 30lbs hard enough to swing until the weight ‘splits’ into 2 15lb clubs and cleaned in 1 hand. A single 15lb club doesn’t command the same power behind it as the double clubs do. That extra force is the keystone to building more muscle.
Its physics and its fitness, and we all need more Double Club Training in our workouts.
